About the Artist
Falcher Fusager, founder of Magick Fusager Design, was born and raised in Denmark. As a teenager, he spent much of his free time painting, using traditional oil glazing techniques (applying multiple layers of transparent oil paints on top of each other). It was his fondness of the extraordinary light and color of oil painting that later inspired him to experiment with transparent enamels and led him to develop his highly refined multi-layered enameling technique. In 1974 Falcher, realizing that he had to follow his passion, moved to California. Living out of his van, he made a living as a San Francisco street artist. He soon gained recognition as he juried into the nation’s top arts and craft shows. During the early 1990s, Falcher discovered the impact that shapes and colors, and the infinite combinations thereof, have on our emotional states. This became the birth of the abstract nature predominant in today’s collections.
“Being an artist is a tremendous privilege. Art embodies life’s magnificence and offers ways to communicate a dimension of emotion and experiences that can not else be seen or touched. Each of my designs embody distinctive senses of emotion and experiences. While exploring the limits of magical colors and ancient techniques, I strive to express as much beauty and individuality in each piece as possible.” Falcher Fusager
Since 1985 Jael Fusager, son of Falcher Fusager, has followed in his father’s footsteps. Now one of the world’s best cloisonné artists, he helps create intriguing one-of-a-kind works and deliver elegance to Magick designs. His vision, artistic excellence and impeccable talent carry Magick towards the future.
What is enamel? Enamel is glass that has been ground into a consistency similar to fine sand. Oxides are added to create permanent colors.
What is cloisonné? Cloisonné is an enameling technique using thin, flat wires to form a design. MAGICK cloisonné uses 24k gold wires, individually cut and meticulously bent with tweezers. The wires are fused to a fine silver disk that is engraved to reflect light. Using magnifiers, each “cell” (cloison in French) created by those wires is filled with different colors of enamel to create a shaded effect. The color is thus built up in up to ten thin layers - each layer being fired in a 1450° F kiln until it reaches its melting point and fuses to the previous layer. These repeated firings produce the spectacular brilliance of color for which MAGICK is known. The resulting gem is cut, polished and set in gold. The jewelry is extremely durable with hardness around 6, and can be repaired if damaged. The brilliant color will last forever.
